It’s been a busy 2015 for FSG, particularly since the summer, and at this writing we still have another scenario strategy workshop to facilitate before the holidays begin for us in earnest. Bring them on!
But first, we’re gearing up for a scenario-planning workshop, December 14-16, for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). A few years back, FSG directed a scenario-planning workshop for the PANYNJ’s Port Commerce division. Our current engagement is focused on the strategic challenges facing the entire enterprise, including, aviation, rail, bridges & tunnels, and real estate assets. Some 50 executives will participate in the upcoming workshop. Follow-on work for the PANYNJ will continue into 2016.
FSG’s work for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) continued into 2015, with a focus on implementation of the strategies coming out of 2014 ACGME strategy workshops. FSG also supported efforts to embed strategic thinking in a larger executive cohort beyond the original project core team. FSG’s Charles Thomas and ACGME’s CEO Thomas J. Nasca co-authored an article titled, “Medicine in 2035: Selected Insights from ACGME’s Scenario Planning,” appearing in the March 2015 issue of the Journal of Graduate Medical Education.
Earlier this year, FSG headed up a pilot application of scenario planning for a specialty area of a major US life insurance company. FSG and client team developed a set of four scenarios for the business unit. FSG then facilitated an abbreviated scenario workshop for executives to explore both risks and opportunities (market conditions, corporate structures, technology, shifting brokerage roles and relationships) across a range of alternative future business environments. The scenario results were also used to stress test the viability of current initiatives and plans, and to seed ideas for future initiatives.
Finally, FSG directed a highly compressed but comprehensive scenario-planning process for a major US consumer packaged goods producer. The firm’s leadership has identified several of the robust strategy areas as ripe for immediate action, and is moving out on them.
As we reflect on 2015, we’re reminded of the loss of our friend and colleague, Mark Safford, this past summer. Mark was a great FSG contributor, and an even better friend and human being.
We wish all our clients, friends and collaborators a wonderful holiday season and a successful and rewarding 2016. We look forward to staying in touch.
